CALIENT Technologies Exhibits All-Photonic Switch, Speaks on
Optical Layer Protocols at NFOEC

San Jose, Calif., Monday, August 21, 2000 – CALIENT Technologies will exhibit its DiamondWave™ 256 intelligent photonic switch, scalable to 1000x1000 ports in a single 7-foot rack, at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in Denver, Colorado, August 28-30, 2000. DiamondWave™ is an all-optical, carrier-class product line that will support expansion to 4096 ports, can route any speed or protocol (up to OC-768), and supports seamless integration into existing SONET-based infrastructures. The system will be operating in Booth 349.

Dr. Jonathan Lang, systems engineer responsible for network architectures, and John Drake, chief network architect at CALIENT, have co-authored a paper on Link Management Protocol (an extension to the Multi-Protocol Lambda Switching initiative in IETF). Dr. Lang will present their paper in Session C8: Optical Layer Protocols on Thursday, August 31st from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The presentation will cover control channel management, link connectivity verification, link property correlation and fault isolation, in a photonic networking model.
